Food Without Flame marks Day 3 of NSS Camp at GDC Udhampur

Food Without Flame marked the Day 3 of the One Week NSS Summer camp 2022 being conducted in GDC Udhampur. The theme of the third day envisaged the concept of making the youth aware about the local food items of the region. The event was conceptualized by the NSS Programme Officers of the college, Dr Rippy Bawa, Dept. of English and Dr Ajay Sharma , Dept. of Mathematics under the overall guidance of the principal, Prof(Dr) Romesh Kumar Gupta.

The third day of the NSS camp started with the usual morning prayer followed by meditation and the yoga sessions conducted by Prashant Khajuria, an ex-NSS senior volunteer of the college. Thereafter, the scheduled activity for the day, Food Without Flame, initiated with the eleven teams taking up their respective local food items like Tircholi, Pugga, Kachaalu, Timbru di Chuttney etc and thereafter displaying them in the pattal and dunna. Dr Rippy Bawa, the NSS PO, detailed about the event and said that Food Without Flame was conceptualized to aware the youth about our local foods and the ingredients used in them which carried a great nutritional value. She further deliberated on the fact that the local food systems played a vital role in building community connections and the local foods yielded less pollution. She added that to keep the safety of the volunteers in mind, the event was designed in such a manner that no fire was used within the college campus. Dr Ajay Sharma, NSS PO also threw light on the significance of preserving the local tastes and how buying food locally can help the farmlands and pasteurs to thrive. Speaking on the occasion, the principal of the college Prof(Dr)Romesh Gupta highly appreciated the NSS volunteers for showing a great zeal and enthusiasm in reflecting the local regional tastes. He made the volunteers aware about benefits of eating local foods and how it benefits the local economy. He motivated the volunteers to go closer to the local foods and make distance from the junk food as far as possible. He also acknowledged the Programme Officers for developing such a thought for the Nss Camp and further motivated them to organize more such programmes. The other faculty members present on the occasion were Prof. Babulal Thakur, HoD Education, Dr. Ved Kumar, Staff Secretary Gdc Udhampur, Prof Gurvinder Raj Verma, HoD Sericulture, Dr Vipul Chalotra, HoD Commerce, Prof Ravinder and others.
