GOVT. DEGREE COLLEGE BOYS UDHAMPUR CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

NSS and NCC Units of Govt. Degree College (Boys) Udhampur under the able
guidance of Principal of the college Prof. Subhash Chander Sharma celebrated
Yoga Week by organizing a number of activities highlighting the importance of
Yoga in life of students. The purpose of the activities was to create awareness
about the benefits of Yoga. The activities were chosen to be such that not only
involved creativity on the part of the students, but also required them to practice
various asanas and inquire about their performance and the applicability of each
asanas as remedies to various problems.
In his message to the students on International Yoga Day, Principal of the college
Prof. Subhash Chander Sharma said that Yoga is a powerful way for students to
keep physically and mentally fit, and to create balance in students’ life and
improve their ability to focus and concentrate. He motivated them to incorporate
Yoga into their daily life and devote time every morning to practice Yoga.
As part of the activities a poster competition was organized in a number of
students from various colleges participated. The posters designed by the
students exhibit not only awareness about various aspects of practicing Yoga, but
also displayed critical thinking. The first position went to Sonali Bharti from GDC
(Boys) Udhampur whereas second and third positions were secured by Suhasini
from Bhaskar Degree College Udhampur and Karan Singh from Govt. MAM
College Jammu respectively. Fourth position was secured by Manisha Devi from
GDC (Boys) Udhampur.
A Perfect Asana competition was also organized in which students from various
colleges participated. Students took pictures in various Yoga Asanas with their
families while practicing Social Distancing. First position went to Suhasini Dogra
from Bhaskar Degree College Udhampur, second position went to Ruhi Sharma
GCW Kathua, and third position went to Karan Thakur from GDC (Boys)
Udhampur. Fourth position was secured by Ritika Sharma from Govt. Degree
College (Boys) Udhampur.
An Inter-College Quiz on Yoga Asanas was also organized, in which students
were given 30 questions on various Yoga Asanas and their significance. In all
more than 100 students from various colleges participated in the quiz. The
students had to answer names of various asanas, and answer trivia related to
Yoga asanas. First position was secured by Ranjna Devi from GCW Kathua, Arti
sharma from Govt. College For Women, Udhampur and Raman Kesar from
GDC (Boys) Udhampur. Second position was secured by Versha Sharma and
Iktiaz Ahmed from GDC Mendhar, Suman Devi from GCW Udhampur, Nagita
Sharma, Isha sharma and Shali Devi from GDC Nilli Nallah, Naveen Sharma,
Ranbir Singh and Meenakshi Khajuria from GDC (Boys) Udhampur, Anmol
sharma from GDC Bishnah, Badhal Sharma From Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah
University Rajouri, and Dheeraj Verma and Shivally Thakur From Govt Degree
College Kathua, while third position went to Taniya Sharma and Sharuti Sharma
from GCW Parade, Jammu, and Ruhani Magotra, Gulshan Singh and Shivani
Pathania from GDC (Boys) Udhampur. Fourth position was secured by Sukriti
Bali from Govt.Degree college Mendhar, Mandeep singh from GGM Science
College, Jammu, Sunil Sharma from GDC Kathua, Tania Gupta from GDC
Kathua and Vandita Khajuria from Govt. College For Woman, Parade.
The competition was conducted by the NSS Unit of the college along with 2 J&K
NCC Boys Bn and 2 J&K NCC Girls Bn under the supervison of NSS
Programme Officers Prof. Samosh Kumar Dr. Rippy Bawa, Maj. Kamal Kishore
and Lt. Kamaldeep Kour. Online management was coordinated by Prof. Shaji
Khan and Prof. Rakesh Kumar. The organization committee included Prof. B. L
Thakur, Prof. Suresh Kumar Dogra, Prof. Romesh Atri, Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma
and Dr. Pankaj Sharma.
